Ola Gjeilo
Born in Norway in 1978, Gjeilo began studying jazz, classical piano and composition at the age of seven. After attending the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and the Royal College of Music in London, he completed his Master’s Degree in composition at The Juilliard School of Music in 2006. The music of New York City based composer and pianist Ola Gjeilo has been performed and recorded in more than 25 countries worldwide in venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall

O Magnum Mysterium
This is one of my most recent works, and surely one of my best. This piece went from being a small project to pass the time, to a virtual choir experience, to having a world premiere in May 2021, conducted by Dr. Gerrit Scheepers and performed by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Chorale. This piece endured a wild ride, but came out better than I could have imagined.more

Explorations of a New World
This was one of my compositions from about a year ago, which I wrote for my music theory class. When composing this piece, I had images of young people exploring rural Europe at twilight, so hopefully that imagery comes across in the music. It is written in G Dorian for solo piano.more
